our whole selves therapy
for minoritized communities
Stephanie Van, LCSW
Hi, I’m Steph! I use they/them pronouns. I am a gender-nonbinary child of Chinese-Vietnamese refugees who was raised on the unceded Tongva territory known as Northeast Los Angeles. I provide psychotherapy, facilitate trainings and workshops, and offer consultation and coaching with a focus on minoritized communities.
People are minoritized (or made subordinate to a dominant group) based on race, gender, sexuality, ability, migration status, class, size, and age. Minoritized communities face a variety of life struggles that are often worsened by the challenge of accessing a therapist that they can feel comfortable with.
I use an eclectic approach grounded in an understanding of systemic oppression and in the inherent wisdom of community healing practices that shape many of today’s therapies.
Psychotherapy
I work with individuals, couples, families, and friends on issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, and oppression.
Training + Consultation
I collaborate with workplaces, educational institutions, and organizations to increase their capacity to support people’s wellness. I offer workshops, retreats, consultation, and coaching at the intersection of mental health, trauma, and systems of oppression.

Awaken Our Whole Selves is a storytelling project on finding healing justice personally, socially and politically. I work on it with my longtime friend and fellow organizer-turned-healer, Dorian Lam (she/her), an acupuncturist at Awaken Remedies.
On the podcast, we explore a variety of topics related to community- and self-care by sharing personal stories as well as professional takes and tips. Each episode ends with an acupressure exercise and a meditation.
